Dr. Garcia is a strong general surgical pathologist with subspecialty expertise in gynecologic and breast pathology devoted to teaching and international service. She is a Professor of Pathology and Adjunct Professor of Obstectrics and Gynecology and Global Health. Her major focuses are practicing patient centered pathology including in underserved areas, teaching how to practice thoughtful, patient centered and cost effective diagnostic pathology, how to communicate via written and verbal reports effectively with clinicians and patients and educate and clarify notions about the general concept of neoplasm, and what is “cancer”. She regularly volunteers in Kenya and mentors residents with interest in providing pathology services to underserved areas.
Dr. Garcia is a Washington native who graduated from University of Washington medical school in 1989. After a year of internal medicine at UW medicine she completed pathology training 1994. She has worked at Harborview, the Seattle VA and UWMC. She was the pathology residency director for 12 years and has been the surgical pathology fellowship director since 2000. She is also the breast and gyn fellowship director and has held various other administrative positions. She completed the teaching scholars program in 2011 and has received several awards for her teaching.
She is board certified in Cytopathology in addition to Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She was recently listed in Seattle Met as a “Top Doctor”.
